A BUILT BY BARN MUSICAL

Barn Theatre in association with Reading Rep Theatre and Theatre Royal Bath present…

THE LAST FIVE YEARS

Music and lyrics by Tony Award Winner Jason Robert Brown

“A beautiful and truly impactful musical”

Written by a Tony award winner, brought to life with an acclaimed score and interweaved with the butterflies of new love and the sting of a separation, The Last Five Years is a moving and thoughtful musical that will have you laughing one minute and full of emotion the next.

Jason Robert Brown has crafted a musical that cleverly explores the rollercoaster journey of two New Yorkers as they navigate their five-year marriage asking the question, “Can this couple that were once bonded by a shared love of creativity remain united as their lives move in different directions?”

Jamie’s side of the story starts at the beginning, filled with the fizz of new romance and continues chronologically, while Cathy’s retelling begins at the end, reflecting a much sadder reality and moving backwards. Indicative of the turbulent reality of love on the rocks, The Last Five Years is a beautiful and truly impactful musical that will be on your mind long after the final curtain.

The Last Five Years premiered at Chicago’s Northlight Theatre in 2001 and was then produced Off-Broadway in March 2002. Since then, it has had numerous productions both in the United States and internationally and we’re delighted to welcome it to the Barn stage.
