Rachel Wagstaff and Duncan Abel’s stage adaptation based on Paula Hawkins’ international bestseller and the blockbuster DreamWorks film, The Girl on the Train, is a gripping mystery/suspense thriller.
Rachel Watson longs for a different life. Her only escape is the perfect couple she watches through the train window every day, happy and in love. Or so it appears. When Rachel learns that the woman she’s been secretly watching has suddenly disappeared, she finds herself as a witness and even a suspect in a thrilling mystery in which she will face bigger revelations than she could ever have anticipated.

KAREEM NASIF
Playing KAMAL ABDIC
Kareem trained at Acting Coach Scotland in Glasgow, with the U.K leader in his particular field Mark Westbrook. Since graduating Kareem has explored a variety of roles in commercial, corporate, film and theatre. Most recently, Kareem had a successful 10 run at the Edinburgh Fringe with a new writing Scottish play based around a family learning to listen to each other. The type of roles he works in are certainly diverse. Immediately prior to the Fringe Kareem played the Beatles Maharishi in an ethereal play set in India. Kareem adores the rehearsal process, exploring characters and improvising with actors, and has performed in Fringe venues in London and Watford and even to Saudi Royals in Riyadh. Kareem is now enjoying working in front of the camera too. Recent commercials include the RBS and an international charity organisation. Kareem is scheduled to shoot his debut feature film in November, as a modern-day villain set around the shadowy streets of Glasgow.
NICK READ
Playing D.I. GASKILL
Nick has just originated the role of Visitor in Eh Up Me Old Flowers, a two hander play at The Pleasance Theatre, Edinburgh with a regional tour planned for 2023. Other Theatre includes A Midsummer Night’s Dream (International Tour); Titus Andronicus (Malachites Theatre); A Misunderstanding (Southwark Playhouse); and Things That Never Grew in the Garden (Hampstead Theatre).
Credits for TV and Film include Red Dwarf (Dave); Victoria (ITV); Humans (AMC/C4); Bugging Out (Borderline C4); The Movement (Springfield Films); Angus in I Came (Dir. Babak Anvari).
Nick is also 1/5 of award-winning comedy troupe ZazU who have four successful Edinburgh Fringe runs, transferring all shows to sell-out runs at The Soho Theatre, and in 2016 they won the Three Weeks Editor’s Choice award ZazU are currently developing their work for radio and TV.
Alongside writing partner Tom Machell, Nick was commissioned by the BFI to develop their 12-part-series Elliot’s Guide to Everything for television. Nick has also written for and directed the Guinness World Record holding sketch show and Edinburgh favourite NewsRevue.

DUNCAN ABEL
ADAPTOR
Duncan Abel co-adapted The Da Vinci Code (2022), which toured the UK. His adaptation of The Girl on the Train transferred to the West End following a successful UK tour (2018). His radio play, co-written with Rachel Wagstaff, was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 2013. Also with Wagstaff, he co-wrote Isambard Kingdom Brunel for Sing London. Duncan’s short fiction has appeared in numerous literary anthologies, most recently Comma Press. He is currently under commission to several UK theatre producers.
KIRSTIE DAVIS
DIRECTOR
Kirstie has worked at many theatres around the country including the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith and Salisbury Playhouse. For six years she was the Associate Director of Watford Palace Theatre where she directed acclaimed productions of Top Girls, The Daughter-in-law and The Beauty Queen of Leenane.
She was CEO and Artistic Director of Forest Forge from 2009 to 2016 where she commissioned and directed over 20 new plays, which included: Free Folk by Gary Owen, the first adaptations of The Wolves of Willoughby Chase and Stardust by Russ Tunney and Woman of Flowers by Kaite O’Reilly.
Recent projects include: Kiss me Quickstep by Amanda Whittington (Queens Theatre, Hornchurch, New Wolsey, Ipswich and Theatr Clwyd); Ladies That Bus by Joyce Branagh (UK Tour) and a revival of The Wolves of Willoughby Chase (Minack Theatre).
This is her second show for the Barn. She was last here directing Daddy long Legs by Paul Gordon and John Caird.

Charlotte is a London-based set and costume designer, she is a graduate of the design course at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Australia. KAITLIN HOWARD

Kaitlin qualified as a Stage Combat instructor in 2005, is a teaching and examining member of The Academy of Performance Combat and is one of only three women on the Equity Register of Fight Directors. Also trained as an actress, her role in The Alphabet Girl won her a 2014 Manchester Theatre Award for Best Fringe Performance.

RACHEL WAGSTAFF
ADAPTOR
Rachel Wagstaff wrote the book for multi-award winning musical, Flowers for Mrs Harris (Best Musical, UK Theatre Awards 2016), which transferred to Chichester Festival Theatre, directed by Daniel Evans, in September 2018, after a run at the Sheffield Crucible. Her critically acclaimed adaptation of Birdsong opened in the West End, directed by Trevor Nunn, and enjoyed four UK tours with the Original Theatre Company and Birdsong Productions, before its award-winning online release in 2020.
With Duncan Abel, Rachel adapted Paula Hawkins’ The Girl on the Train, which had a record-breaking UK tour and West End run in 2019, and Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, which toured the UK in 2022.
Rachel’s adaptation of Agatha Christie’s The Mirror Crack’d toured the UK in 2019, produced by the Wales Millennium Centre and Wiltshire Creative; an Indian version was produced at NCPA in 2020. A new production of The Mirror Crack’d is currently touring the UK, with the Original Theatre Company.
For radio, Rachel adapted Sebastian Faulks’ novel The Girl at the Lion d’Or for a five-part series for Woman’s Hour on Radio Four, transmitted in 2009. Her Afternoon Play When I Lost You, also co-written with Duncan Abel, was transmitted on Radio Four in July 2013.
Moonshadow, the musical she co-wrote with Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), opened at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010, and then was produced at the Princess Theatre in Melbourne in June 2012. That Girl, was produced at the Soho Theatre in June 2012, by DryWrite. Rachel also wrote the book for the original musical Only the Brave, which opened at the Wales Millennium Centre in March 2016 with music composed by Matthew Brind.
